WebThe Frog Bridge (officially known as the Thread City Crossing) is a bridge located in Willimantic, Connecticut which carries South Street across the Willimantic River. It is known as the Frog Bridge because it has four copper frog sculptures on each end of the bridge, sitting on concrete thread spools. The Battle of the Frogs (or the Windham Frog Fight) is a local legend concerning a 1754 incident in Windham, Connecticut when the loud croaking of thousands of bullfrogs (Lithobates catesbeianus) in a nearby pond led citizens of the town to panic and assume that Windham was under attack, some of them mistaking the croaks for shouted words or the beating of drums.
